HO, HO, HOW cute are these deliciously sweet Chocolate Covered Strawberry Reindeer! For any Christmas party, holiday gathering or event, these unique fruit creations are the perfect way to get family and friends in the holly, jolly spirit of the season!
Prep Time: 45 min
Yields: About 24 strawberries
Ingredients
For Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- 16 oz package of strawberries
- ½ lb of milk or dark chocolate melting wafers
- 4 oz white chocolate melting wafers
- 5 oz bag of mini pretzels
For Decorating Reindeer
- Red gel writer
- Or red food dye
- Black food gel writer
- You can also use leftover melted chocolate
- Can also just purchase sugar candy eyes
Supplies
- Toothpicks
- Paper towels
- Double boiler to melt the chocolate
- If you do not have a double boiler, not a problem! All you will need is a small pot for the bottom, and a heat resistant bowl to fit over the top of the pot
Directions
- Wash strawberries and pat dry with a paper towel.
- To melt the chocolate, fill bottom of the double boiler (or pot) with water. Fill top of the double boiler (or bowl) with your chocolate wafers. Use a low set flame on the stovetop and stir until the white chocolate is fully melted.
- Note: do not boil the water beforehand!
- Use the green leafy stems of the strawberries to fully dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate. Place strawberries on a plate to harden. Once the chocolate has hardened, take leafy stems off.
- What’s a reindeer without its antlers? Take mini pretzels and break them in half to make the reindeer antlers. Stick 2 pretzel “antlers” on the top of each strawberry.
- Now it’s time to decorate your reindeers! Follow same steps as above to melt the white chocolate. If you are hand painting the reindeers, section off the melted white chocolate into two parts in your bowl. One side use red food dye (or red gel writer) for the reindeer nose, the other side keep white for the eyes.
- Note: If you are using the sugar eyes, you do not need to section the melted white chocolate.
- With a toothpick and the melted red-dyed chocolate, paint a circle in the middle of the chocolate covered strawberry. This will be the reindeer’s red nose.
- Next with a toothpick, take your melted white chocolate and dot two white circles above the nose to make the reindeer’s eyes. Once hardened, use black gel writer (or left over melted milk/dark chocolate) and make a smaller dot on the white circles to complete the eyes.
- If you wish not to paint the eyes, you can use the sugar candy eyes (use leftover melted chocolate to stick eyes on to strawberries)
Now you are ready to serve up some festively fun fruit reindeer for kids (and adults) of all ages to enjoy!
