Your Guide to Throwing a Winter Baby Shower

There’s nothing quite like welcoming a new baby to the world – it’s one of the most exciting and happiest times in a parent’s life! And since this is such a special occasion, it’s clear to us why friends and family would throw a pre-baby celebration for the mom-to-be, most commonly known as a baby shower.

Now, while planning a party in the spring, summer and even fall is relatively easy, with harsher weather conditions possibly getting in the way during the winter, we know some party planners might feel stumped with where to start during this time of year. The good news is...we’re here to help! Keep reading for our tips on how to throw the perfect winter baby shower.

Step #1: Pick a location.

While an outdoor baby shower may need a rain date during the spring, in the winter, you may be up against more difficult conditions – snow, sleet, ice. That said, if you’re going to host the baby shower at a venue, it’s super important that you find one who will be accommodating should they need to close due to weather conditions, and it’s also important to find one that will be willing to work with you if you are the one who needs to cancel due to weather. Since this can be a bit overwhelming, our suggestion would be to host your winter baby shower at someone’s home, since that puts the party planners in total control!

Step #2: Choose an appropriate date.

There’s a lot going on in the winter with it being the holiday season and all, so you’ll want to take the holidays into consideration when picking a date. With many people choosing to travel for the holidays, it’s a good idea to touch base with potential guests ahead of time to see what their schedule looks like, and to be super safe, you should definitely stay away from the week surrounding major holidays such as Christmas.

Step #3: Decide on food.
If you’ll be catering for the baby shower, this is another step where you’ll need to discuss weather restrictions – if the party has to be postponed, how will that affect your order? Or, if you’re hosting the party at home and do it potluck style but someone can’t make it due to weather, who will be prepared to step in? One thing’s for certain when it comes to dessert – a fruit bouquet filled with awesome winter fruits will always be ready for you when you order from us (and it will certainly make welcoming a new baby even sweeter)!

Step #4: Prepare activities.
Since it’s likely going to be chilly you’ll have to keep your party indoors, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be limited in activity options! From baby shower bingo to “guess that baby,” there’s so much you can do indoors and still have a super good time!

Step #5: Have backup plans.

Most importantly, you’ll need to have a backup plan. As we’ve mentioned in several of our steps, winter can make things difficult sometimes due to the weather typically experienced, so if a major snowstorm or similar weather event should get in the way, you’ll want to have a backup plan in place to avoid any major hassles.

If you have a winter baby shower to plan this year, we think following these steps will make things super easy for you! And should you have other suggestions for what to do, be sure to share them with us so we can add them to our list!
