Every year February 14th comes around and you’re surrounded by engagement posts on Facebook and heart shaped pastries. If you’re in a relationship, it’s the best day of the year, but if you’re not - not so much. But just because you’re single this year, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the Valentine’s Day festivities. Grab your friends and put your best outfit on because here’s your guide to making the most out of cupid’s birthday as a single guy or gal.
Step 1 - Get the Group Together
Gather all of your other single friends and prepare to take on the day by storm. Before Valentine’s Day even comes, make a plan with your best single friends to all spend the day together. Hit the road and travel to new places or stay in the comforts of home and have a little party of your own. Whatever you choose, make sure you're all together and enjoying this time for yourselves!
Step 2 - Treat Yourself
Valentine’s Day is all about love, so show yourself some TLC this year by indulging yourself. Pamper yourselves by heading to the spa or the mall. Nothing is more relaxing than facials and massages. But if you even want to avoid happy couples on the street, make your own spa right at home by setting up a facial mask, manicure and massage station. If the spa isn’t your thing, head to the mall for some retail therapy. Make today the day you are going to buy that new jacket or watch you’ve had your eye on.
And don’t worry guys, we haven’t forgotten about you. Buy tickets to see your favorite sports team (here’s to hoping they are in season). Now instead of dreading the 14th, you’ll be counting down the days until it comes.
Step 3 - Get Ready to Feel Empowered
Get pumped up by watching your favorite male or female friendship empowerment movie.
For the ladies, we suggest,
- Thelma and Louise
- Erin Brockovich
- Mulan
- Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The Color Purple
For the guys, try,
- Lethal Weapon
- I Love You, Man
- The Odd Couple
- Harold and Kumar
What’s a movie night without the snacks? Binge on something sweet and salty. Chocolate covered strawberries and popcorn will do just the trick for your movie fix!
Step 4 - Fall in Love With Something New
The biggest problem people face on Valentine’s Day is that they feel alone and bored if they don’t have a special someone to share it with. So instead of dwelling on all of your free time, put it to good use. Take a cooking class, work on your summer bod or start learning a new language.
Step 5 - Hit the Town
Valentine’s Day is notorious for drink specials and no cover charges, so take advantage of it! Spend the night dancing and laughing with friends, and who knows, maybe you’ll meet another single person while you’re out!
Step 6 - Say “Thank You”
Give thanks. Yup, you read that right. You may not be in a relationship right now, but you are still surrounded by friends and family who love you. The right one will come along, just remember to give it some time!
And just remember, the average person in a relationship spends around $130 on their significant other, so just think of all the money you can spend on yourself instead!
